Abuja, February 4, 2025 –
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no child is left out of school due to disabilities. This was emphasized by the Mandate Secretary for Education, FCTA Education Secretariat, Hon. Dr. Danlami Hayyo, at the unveiling ceremony of the Needs Magazine by the Department of Special Needs Education. The event, held on Tuesday, saw Hayyo represented by Mr. Siyanbola O. O, the Director of FCT Department of Higher Education.

In his keynote address, Hayyo stressed that the FCTA remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive education system that accommodates children with disabilities. He noted that, historically, society has relegated the rights of special needs learners, leading to increased marginalization and denial of access to quality education.
He called on stakeholders to support special needs education and recognize its importance. He also urged for backing in the production of the Needs Magazine, highlighting its role in raising awareness about the unique learning challenges of children with disabilities. The magazine, he explained, would serve multiple purposes, including educating parents on the FCTA’s specialized services for special needs learners.

The opening speech at the event was delivered by Mr. Jonah O. Aturu, the Director of the FCT Department of Special Needs Education. The ceremony was well attended by key FCTA officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Dr. Sani Ladan; Director of the Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sule Mundi; the Rector of the College of Education, Zuba; and the Director of School Services, among others.

The unveiling of the Needs Magazine marks a significant milestone in the FCTA’s efforts to promote inclusive education and ensure that every child, regardless of disability, has access to learning opportunities.
