FG Accuses Defendants of Conspiracy, Illegal Arms Possession and Alleged Terrorism-Related Activities as Legal Battle Begins

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a 13-count criminal charge against six individuals, including retired military officers, over allegations bordering on an alleged coup plot and terrorism-related offences.

According to court filings, the defendants are accused of conspiracy to commit treason, illegal possession of firearms, and other offences said to threaten national security and constitutional order.

Security sources disclosed that the alleged plot was uncovered following coordinated intelligence operations by relevant security agencies after weeks of surveillance. The suspects were reportedly arrested at different locations across the country.

The FG through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, stated that the charges reflect its commitment to protecting democratic institutions and ensuring that any attempt to destabilize the country is dealt with in accordance with the law.

Legal representatives of the accused are expected to respond to the charges in court as proceedings begin. The case is expected to draw significant public attention due to its sensitive nature and national security implications.

The matter remains before the court as further details are expected to emerge during trial proceedings.
