Security Agencies Release Names of 40 Suspects as Investigation Into Alleged Coup Plot Deepens

Nigeria’s security agencies have reportedly uncovered a coup an alleged plot to overthrow the Federal Government, leading to the identification of 40 suspects made up of serving and retired military personnel, a police officer, and civilians.

Investigative reports indicate that the suspects were drawn from different arms of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as civilian collaborators allegedly involved in logistics, communication, and propaganda. Intelligence sources said the plot was uncovered through sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering, prompting swift intervention to prevent any breakdown of constitutional order.

Those named reportedly include senior officers such as brigadier generals, colonels, lieutenant colonels, majors, captains, and non-commissioned officers, alongside civilians accused of playing supporting roles. Security sources disclosed that the alleged plan involved coordination, reconnaissance, mobilisation, and funding, with some suspects believed to have attempted to exploit existing security and socio-economic challenges.

Authorities have emphasised that all those named remain suspects and have not been convicted by any court of law. Investigations are said to be ongoing to establish individual roles, possible external links, and the full scope of the alleged network.

The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that the situation is under control, reaffirming its commitment to protecting democracy and maintaining national stability. Citizens have also been urged to remain calm as security agencies continue their investigations and take necessary legal steps where applicable.
