Fresh kidnapping attack in Kubwa area of Nigeria’s capital raises security concerns as gunmen abduct residents during late-night raid.
At least 16 residents have been abducted by suspected gunmen in the Kubwa area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in a fresh security breach that has heightened fears among residents of Nigeria’s capital.
According to reports, the attackers stormed a community in Kubwa late at night, shooting sporadically to create panic before forcefully taking several residents away.
Among those kidnapped were said to be the wife of a local vigilante member and four children of a pastor, alongside other residents of the area.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen arrived in large numbers and moved from house to house during the raid, overpowering residents and whisking their victims away into nearby bushes before security operatives could respond.
The incident threw the community into panic as many residents fled their homes for safety while others raised alarm over the growing wave of kidnappings around the Federal Capital Territory.
Residents have continued to express concern about the increasing insecurity in satellite towns around Abuja, including Kubwa, where cases of kidnapping and armed attacks have been reported in recent times.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement on the incident, but efforts are reportedly underway to track the attackers and secure the safe release of the abducted victims.
The latest attack adds to mounting security challenges in the FCT and has renewed calls for stronger security presence in communities around Abuja.
