Barcelona complete €40 million transfer for Nigerian winger Kareem David Adeyemi, making him the first Nigerian to represent the club’s senior team.
Spanish giants Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Nigerian winger Kareem David Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €40 million, making history as the first Nigerian to join Barcelona’s senior team in recent years after Emmanuel Amuneke joins in 1996 and Samuel Gbenga Okunowo in 1998.
The 24-year-old forward secured a long-term contract after informing Borussia Dortmund of his desire to leave following the breakdown of contract extension negotiations.
Known for his blistering pace, technical ability, and versatility across the front line, Adeyemi arrives in Spain after several impressive seasons in the Bundesliga, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.
His move is being celebrated across Nigeria as a historic moment for the country’s football. Despite the success of many Nigerian stars in Europe’s top leagues over the years, no Nigerian had previously represented Barcelona’s senior team until now.
Barcelona will be hoping Adeyemi’s arrival adds more firepower to their attack as they prepare for the new season and compete for domestic and European honours.
Kareem David Adeyemi is a Nigerian who plays as a winger or forward for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team.
