Aspirant directs supporters across six area councils to stay away from the exercise, cites contradictions in party’s electoral process

A frontline aspirant for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Ezekiel Musa Dalhatu, has announced his decision to boycott the party’s senatorial primaries following alleged last-minute changes to the electoral guidelines.

In a statement released on Friday, Dalhatu said the decision was reached after consultations with stakeholders and supporters across the FCT.

According to him, aspirants who attended a meeting at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday night were informed of sudden guidelines introducing a delegate-based voting process, contrary to the earlier arrangement for direct primaries to be conducted at local government headquarters across the six area councils.

Dalhatu explained that all the aspirants at the meeting unanimously rejected the new directives and proceeded to the residence of Sen. Seriake Dickson, whom he described as the national leader and a key figure coordinating the party’s electoral process.

He further alleged that during the engagement, the party leader contradicted the newly introduced verbal guidelines by stating that the FCT senatorial primaries would not hold, while also preventing further arguments on the matter.

Consequently, Dalhatu directed all his supporters across the six area councils of the FCT to boycott the primaries.

The aspirant, however, appreciated his supporters for their loyalty and resilience throughout the political process, urging them not to be discouraged.

“To all my supporters across the FCT, I salute your effort and resilience all the way. Please do not be broken but remain highly spirited. I will communicate in due course on my next line of action,” he stated.
