Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army, as directed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. This milestone was announced by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in a statement posted on X.com on Wednesday.
The decoration ceremony took place on June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club. During the event, Major General JO Ochai, the NDA Commandant, praised Lieutenant Owowoh’s exceptional performance as a cadet. Her distinguished record earned her the honor of being the first Nigerian female officer trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, culminating in her promotion.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, and family members. Owowoh, aged 24, had previously made history in April by becoming the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from Sandhurst, a prestigious military academy known for training officers from around the world
