Labour Party Faction Alleges Midnight Takeover at National Secretariat
A major faction within the Labour Party has alleged a midnight looting and forceful takeover of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, deepening the leadership crisis that has rocked the organisation for months.
Sources aligned with the camp loyal to Julius Abure said members arrived at the secretariat to find the premises under new control, with banners and signage altered and access to several offices restricted. The development immediately sparked outrage among supporters of the faction, who described the situation as an attempt to sideline their leadership structure.
Those raising the alarm argued that the action was carried out without due process and warned that it could worsen divisions at a time when the party needs unity. They further claimed sensitive materials and property within the secretariat may have been tampered with during the operation.
However, the rival group currently occupying the facility insists its actions follow existing court pronouncements regarding the party’s leadership. The camp maintains that the change in control is consistent with legal directives and necessary to stabilise the party’s administration.
The struggle for authority within the Labour Party has persisted since the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, polarising members across the country. With fresh accusations of a forceful takeover now dominating discussions, many stakeholders fear the dispute could affect preparations for future political contests if reconciliation efforts fail.
