Mosque in London hosts prayers for Anthony Joshua’s late friends
A London mosque has hosted funeral prayers for two close friends and associates of British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, who were killed in a tragic road accident in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The Janazah (Islamic funeral) prayers were held at the London Central Mosque, drawing family members, friends, members of the Nigerian diaspora, and supporters from the boxing community who gathered to pay their last respects.
The deceased, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, reportedly died following a fatal auto crash that occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
Reports indicated that the vehicle conveying them was involved in a collision with a stationary truck, resulting in their deaths. The incident sent shockwaves through the sports community in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Anthony Joshua, who was said to be in the same vehicle, survived the crash with minor injuries and was later discharged from medical care before returning to the UK.
The funeral prayers in London attracted a large turnout, reflecting the impact the deceased had on those around them. Mourners described the late Ghami and Ayodele as loyal friends and dedicated team members who played key roles behind the scenes in Joshua’s career.
Islamic clerics at the mosque offered prayers for the repose of their souls, while attendees called for improved road safety measures in Nigeria, especially along major highways known for frequent accidents.
Since news of the accident broke, condolences have continued to pour in from fans, sports figures, and members of the public, with many sympathising with Anthony Joshua and the bereaved families.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety, abandoned trucks, and poor highway management on major Nigerian roads.
