Service Pause Linked to Regulatory Compliance Requirements
MTN Nigeria has announced the suspension of its Xtratime service, which allows subscribers to borrow airtime and data, as part of efforts to comply with new digital lending regulations introduced by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
The company said the move is necessary to align with updated rules governing digital credit services in Nigeria, aimed at improving consumer protection, ensuring transparency, and regulating how such services are offered.
Xtratime, widely used by subscribers for emergency airtime and data, is classified under digital lending, prompting the temporary suspension while MTN reviews and adjusts its operations to meet the new regulatory requirements.
MTN assured customers that the service will be restored once it achieves full compliance with the FCCPC guidelines.
