NDC Files Appeal Against Court Ruling, Insists Party Remains Legally Registered

Seriake Dickson says the party has filed a stay of execution and remains eligible to participate in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed an appeal against a recent court ruling challenging its registration status, insisting that the party remains a legally recognised political platform.

National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, disclosed that the NDC had also filed an application for a stay of execution, stressing that the party’s legal status remains intact pending the determination of the appeal.

Dickson said all relevant legal documents had been served on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the electoral body to act in accordance with the law and respect due process.

He further explained that the party had already concluded its nationwide nomination processes, with candidates emerging through primaries monitored by INEC.

The former Bayelsa State governor reassured party members and supporters not to panic, noting that the party still has enough time within the electoral timetable to upload the names of its candidates for various elective positions.

According to him, the leadership of the NDC remains committed to fostering unity within the party and reconciling aggrieved aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy follows a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja that reportedly set aside an earlier judgment compelling INEC to register the NDC as a political party.

Despite the legal setback, the party has vowed to pursue all available legal options, maintaining that it remains validly registered and fully prepared to participate in Nigeria’s next general elections.
