Elegant Nurses Forum calls for investigation into alleged misconduct at Lagos University Teaching Hospital

The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has officially petitioned Nigeria’s Minister of Health and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged retirement fraud, abuse of office, and financial misconduct by the Head of Nursing Services at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

According to the petition, the officer in question reached her mandatory retirement age in January 2026 after going on terminal leave in 2025 but allegedly refused to vacate her position, violating Nigeria’s Public Service Rules. The forum further claims that the officer pressured subordinate nurses to contribute funds toward her farewell events and birthday celebrations, with the money allegedly diverted for personal use.

The ENF stated that this situation undermines public service regulations, creates administrative disorder, and prevents employment opportunities for qualified nurses. The petition calls for an immediate removal of the officer, a full independent investigation, refund of all collected funds, and disciplinary action if misconduct is confirmed.

“This illegal retention and alleged financial abuse are against public service rules and harm the morale of hardworking nurse,” the forum said in the petition. They urged the Health Ministry and ICPC to act swiftly to prevent further abuses and ensure compliance with retirement regulations.

The ENF also emphasized that prompt enforcement of retirement rules is essential to maintain transparency, accountability, and fairness in Nigeria’s public healthcare system.
