Former Kaduna Lawmaker to Serve on National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Yakubu Umar Barde, as a National Commissioner of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC).
Barde represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State in the House of Representatives from the 5th to the 9th National Assembly. During his legislative career, he served in several leadership positions, including Minority Whip of the 8th House of Representatives.
The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission is a federal agency responsible for advising the government on salaries, wages, income policies, and remuneration matters in Nigeria’s public service. The commission also plays a key role in recommending salary structures and ensuring equitable wage administration across government institutions.
President Tinubu made eight appointments to the Wages Commission, along with Maj General Bindawa. Former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, is the new secretary of the commission. Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna, were appointed as commissioners.
Dr Mai Adamu Yau, from Borno, Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh(Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were appointed as members of the Commission.
