Residents in Barkin Ladi LGA in Plateau state erupt in protest following renewed attacks, accuse security forces of failure to protect communities

Tension erupted in the Kassa community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after angry youths and women set a military checkpoint on fire in protest over renewed killings in the area. The protest reportedly followed the burial of a resident who was killed in a recent attack, which triggered widespread anger among community members who accused security operatives of failing to protect them despite their presence in the area.

Eyewitnesses said the protesters gathered in large numbers, stormed the checkpoint, and destroyed structures and equipment used by soldiers stationed there. They also blocked nearby roads, causing a temporary disruption of movement before the situation was later brought under control through the intervention of community leaders.

Residents expressed frustration over continued attacks in the area, insisting that the security presence had not stopped the violence. Some protesters said they were tired of repeated killings and mass burials in their communities, demanding stronger action from authorities to protect lives and property.

Security sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, adding that additional patrols and surveillance have been deployed to restore calm and prevent further escalation. Community leaders who intervened appealed for calm and assured residents that their grievances would be communicated to the relevant authorities for necessary action.

The incident reflects ongoing security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where communities have continued to experience repeated attacks despite the deployment of security personnel.
