Tinubu Swears In FCC Chair, 37 Commissioners At State House, Abuja

New FCC leadership led by former lawmaker Hulayat Omidiran takes office as Tinubu led government seeks to strengthen federal character implementation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday swore in the Chairman and 37 Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) at the State House, Abuja, marking a new phase for the constitutional body responsible for promoting fairness and inclusiveness in federal appointments.

The new FCC Chairman, Hulayat Omidiran, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives from Osun State, took the oath of office alongside commissioners representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The swearing-in ceremony followed the Senate’s confirmation of Omidiran’s appointment in November 2025. She succeeds Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure as FCC chair was marked by controversy and public criticism.

The Federal Character Commission is mandated by the constitution to ensure equitable distribution of public offices, socio-economic amenities, and development projects across Nigeria’s diverse regions, in line with the federal character principle.

Observers say the inauguration of the new FCC leadership signals the Tinubu administration’s plan to reposition the commission and address long-standing concerns over imbalance and marginalisation in federal appointments across ministries, departments, and agencies.
