Tension has gripped parts of Kwara State following an attack by armed men on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) community in Iwo, Isin Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly killed one person and abducted a pastor alongside two others.
According to local security sources, the attackers stormed the area in the late hours, shooting sporadically and causing residents to flee for safety. During the chaos, a community leader was struck by a stray bullet and died instantly.
The abducted victims include:
The CAC pastor
A filling station manager
A security guard
The attackers were said to have escaped through a bush path before security operatives arrived at the scene.
Kwara Community in Fear as Manhunt Begins
Security agencies, including vigilante groups, have launched a manhunt to track down the armed men and rescue the abducted victims. Residents say insecurity in the region has worsened recently, with communities calling for stronger government intervention.
Community leaders in Isin LGA have appealed for improved patrols and reinforcement from the police and other security outfits to prevent further attacks.
Government Urged to Strengthen Rural Security
Local stakeholders and civil society groups are urging the Kwara State Government to prioritize rural security architecture, especially around worship centers, farms, and isolated communities vulnerable to attacks.
The Kwara State Police Command is yet to release an official statement, but sources confirm that multiple units have been deployed to intensify search operations.
