Tinubu Lauds INEC, Calls for Free and Fair Elections in FCT, Kano, Rivers

President urges peaceful participation, warns against violence and electoral malpractice ahead of polls as he lauds INEC

President has commended the (INEC) ahead of the upcoming elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano State, and Rivers State, urging the commission to ensure a transparent, credible, and peaceful process.

In a statement issued on Friday, the President called on INEC to uphold the highest standards of integrity, emphasizing timely voter accreditation, seamless voting procedures, accurate collation of results, and prompt transmission in accordance with the Electoral Act. He stressed that Nigerians must have full confidence in the electoral system.

The elections are scheduled to hold in the , including the six area councils, as well as in parts of and , where bye-elections will be conducted to fill vacant legislative seats.

Tinubu urged eligible voters to turn out peacefully and exercise their civic rights without fear, noting that democracy thrives in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law. He described credible elections as essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions and deepening public trust in governance.

The President also appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from violence, inflammatory rhetoric, and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the process. He emphasized that elections should reflect the genuine will of the people.

Addressing security agencies, Tinubu warned against intimidation, harassment, or any form of high-handedness that could disenfranchise voters. He charged security personnel to remain neutral and focus on protecting lives, property, and the sanctity of the ballot as residents of the FCT and affected constituencies prepare for the polls.
