Danjuma Shekwolo says his controversial remarks were taken out of context, reaffirms commitment to inclusive governance and service to residents regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliation.
The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has clarified his recent comments which sparked public criticism after a video of him allegedly asking residents to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) or leave the council went viral on social media.
Speaking to journalists, stakeholders and community leaders on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Shekwolo said the remarks were made during a meeting with APC youths and loyalists and had been taken out of context and sensationalised by some media platforms and social media users.
The Kuje chairman stressed that his administration has no intention of denying or restricting the rights of residents based on their political affiliation.
According to him, the meeting was primarily focused on administrative efficiency, local development and community welfare, rather than the exclusion or alienation of residents who belong to other political parties.
Shekwolo further maintained that he has no authority to disenfranchise any resident or citizen of Kuje Area Council of their fundamental human rights.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to:
- Equitable governance and inclusive leadership;
- Community development and improved service delivery;
- Respect for the rights of all residents, regardless of political affiliation;
- Peaceful coexistence among residents of different ethnic and religious backgrounds; and
- Open dialogue and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
While acknowledging the important role of the media as a pillar of democracy, the chairman urged journalists and media organisations to always verify the full context of statements before publication.
“At no point did I intend to cause disaffection, undermine any group, or promote policies that do not serve the best interest of our citizens,” Shekwolo stated.
“Our doors remain open for constructive feedback, dialogue, and accurate reporting.”
The chairman concluded by calling on residents and stakeholders across Kuje Area Council to work with his administration towards accelerating development and improving the welfare of the people, while contributing to the broader growth of the Federal Capital Territory.
