FG order immediate asset freeze as part of intensified crackdown on terrorism financing across Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG) has released an updated sanctions list identifying individuals and entities allegedly linked to terrorism financing, in a renewed push to disrupt illicit funding networks across the country.

The directive, issued by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee (NSC), mandates all financial institutions and relevant authorities to immediately freeze accounts, assets, and economic resources associated with those listed.

The development was reported by Legit.ng, which highlighted that the updated list contains a mix of individuals, organisations, and a limited number of companies allegedly involved in financing terrorist activities.

Among those named on the sanctions list are:
Tukur Mamu, Yusuf Ghazali, Muhammad Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, Sallamudeen Hassan, Adamu Ishak, Hassana-Oyiza Isah, Abdulkareem Musa, Umar Abdullahi, Abdurrahaman Musa Ado, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, Muhammad Ibrahim Isah, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Surajo Abubakar Mohammad, Fannami Alhaji Bukar, Muhammed Musa, Sahabi Ismail, and Mohammed Saleh Buba.

The companies and business entities identified include:
Alin Yar Yaya General Enterprises, K. Are Nigeria Limited, SEFICUVI Global Company, West & East Africa General Trading Company Limited, and Settings Bureau De Change Ltd. Also included in the sanctions framework are already proscribed groups such as Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to the FG NSC, all banks and financial institutions are required to enforce immediate compliance by identifying accounts linked to the listed persons and entities, placing restrictions on them, and reporting any suspicious financial activities.

The committee noted that the designations are based on intelligence reports and ongoing investigations, stressing that inclusion on the list does not automatically amount to a criminal conviction but serves as a preventive FG and national security measure.
