Governor Agbu Kefas Joins APC, Boosting Party’s Governors to 30

Taraba Governor’s Defection Strengthens APC’s Grip Across Nigeria”

In a major political development, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing the ruling party’s total number of governors to 30 out of 36 states. This move further consolidates the APC’s dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kefas, formerly a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), received a warm welcome from APC leadership and fellow governors. Party officials described the defection as a significant boost for the APC, noting that it strengthens the party’s influence across the North-East region.

With this latest defection, APC now holds governorship in 30 states, leaving only six states under opposition control, including PDP, Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Political analysts say this shift highlights the growing momentum of the APC and its appeal to political leaders across party lines.

The addition of Taraba State to the APC fold has immediate political implications. Analysts believe this may affect electoral strategies, party dynamics, and governance in both the state and at the federal level, signaling potential realignments in regions traditionally dominated by opposition parties.
