NAFDAC Raises Health Concerns, Urges Importers and Consumers to Avoid Restricted Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public health warning against the importation, sale, and consumption of certain energy drinks recently banned by Ghanaian authorities due to safety concerns.

According to the agency, the affected products were prohibited in Ghana after regulatory investigations identified issues related to their safety and compliance with health standards. NAFDAC stressed that the products are not approved for importation or distribution in Nigeria and warned that anyone involved in bringing them into the country would face regulatory sanctions.

The agency advised importers, distributors, retailers, and members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing or consuming any of the banned energy drinks. It also urged consumers to verify that beverages and other regulated products carry valid NAFDAC registration numbers before making purchases.

NAFDAC noted that consuming unapproved or unsafe energy drinks could expose users to serious health risks, particularly due to excessive stimulant content or the presence of harmful ingredients. The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting public health through continuous surveillance, border monitoring, and enforcement operations.

The regulator further encouraged healthcare professionals and consumers to promptly report any suspected adverse reactions linked to food, beverages, or other regulated products through its official reporting channels.

NAFDAC assured Nigerians that it will continue collaborating with relevant local and international regulatory agencies to prevent the circulation of unsafe products and safeguard public health across the country.
