Party Says Manual Voting Will Ensure Smooth Delegate Congresses Across FCT
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its party primaries will officially begin on May 28, 2026, ahead of the forthcoming elections. The party also confirmed that it has suspended the use of electronic voting for the exercise, citing limited time for adequate preparations.
According to party officials, the decision was reached after consultations with stakeholders and electoral committees responsible for organizing the delegate congresses and primaries nationwide.
The NDC explained that while electronic voting remains part of its long-term reform plans, the available time before the primaries was not enough to properly deploy and test the system across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Party leaders noted that the switch to manual voting is aimed at avoiding technical disruptions and ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise for all delegates and aspirants participating in the primaries.
Sources within the party revealed that preparations for the primaries have intensified, with screening exercises, accreditation of delegates, and logistical arrangements already ongoing in several states.
The development has generated mixed reactions among party members, with some supporting the decision as a practical move, while others expressed disappointment over the postponement of the electronic voting system which many believed would improve transparency.
Despite the concerns, the NDC leadership assured members that strict monitoring mechanisms would be put in place to guarantee fairness during the primaries.
