Outgoing JAMB Registrar Reflects on Decade of Public Service, Says He Needs Time to Reconnect Spiritually and Return to Academia
Outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has said he intends to return to academia and dedicate more time to his spiritual life after completing his 10-year tenure in office.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony to the new JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, Oloyede admitted that public service comes with difficult decisions that can weigh heavily on one’s conscience.
“You cannot serve in these past 10 years without losing one spiritual quality or the other. I need some time to go back and beg God for what was done,” he said.
He also defended JAMB’s handling of the 2023 Mmesoma Ejikeme UTME result manipulation case, insisting that the board acted to protect the integrity of its examination process and had no regrets over its actions.
Oloyede thanked JAMB staff for their support throughout his tenure, describing the board’s achievements as a product of teamwork. He expressed confidence that his successor, Professor Segun Aina, would sustain and improve on the reforms introduced during his administration.
