Aspirant calls for anti-graft investigation into alleged irregularities in NDC screening process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ABUJA – A senatorial aspirant in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging financial misconduct and irregularities involving members of the party’s screening committee.
The aspirant accused the committee responsible for screening candidates for the 2027 general elections of engaging in activities that allegedly compromised the integrity of the exercise. The petition reportedly called on the anti-corruption agency to investigate claims that some aspirants were unfairly treated during the screening process.
According to the petitioner, the alleged actions of the committee undermined transparency and fairness within the party and raised concerns about the credibility of the selection process. The aspirant further claimed that certain decisions made during the screening exercise may have been influenced by factors outside the party’s established guidelines.
The allegations have also drawn attention because the screening committee was involved in the clearance of key aspirants within the party, including the presidential aspiration process associated with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
The petitioner urged the EFCC to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure accountability if any wrongdoing is established. The move adds a fresh dimension to internal party disputes as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
