2027: Six Oyo Reps Dump PDP for APM as Political Realignment Deepens Ahead of General Elections

Lawmakers loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde formally leave the PDP for the Allied Peoples Movement amid growing political shifts ahead of the 2027 elections.

The political landscape in Oyo State witnessed another major shake-up as six members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The defections were announced during plenary at the House of Representatives after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters from the lawmakers notifying the chamber of their decision to leave the PDP.

The six lawmakers from Oyo State who joined the APM are Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle, and Adigun Adekunle.

Their move is widely seen as part of the ongoing political realignment involving allies of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development comes amid growing political tensions and shifting alliances within the PDP in Oyo State.

Political observers believe the defections could significantly alter the state’s political dynamics as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. The APM has recently gained increased attention in Oyo State following reports of growing support from members of Makinde’s political camp.

The latest defections further highlight the internal challenges facing the PDP and reflect the broader wave of political repositioning taking place across Nigeria as parties and politicians begin strategizing for the next general election.
