Retired Nigerian Army General Succumbs to Health Complications While Held by Bandits in Katsina State

Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information and spokesperson of the Nigerian military, who reportedly died while in the custody of terrorists after being abducted in Katsina State.

The retired Army General was kidnapped alongside his wife while travelling through Katsina State. Their abduction drew widespread concern across the country, particularly within security and military circles, due to his distinguished service to the nation.

Reports indicate that Major General Abubakar died in captivity after battling health complications, including diabetes and hypertension. Despite efforts by security agencies and government authorities to secure his release, the former military spokesman did not survive the ordeal.

The Katsina State Government confirmed the unfortunate development, describing it as a painful loss not only to the family of the deceased but also to Nigeria as a whole. The government reiterated its commitment to combating banditry and other forms of insecurity that continue to threaten lives and livelihoods across the region.

Before his death, a video had surfaced showing the retired General and his wife in captivity, appealing for assistance and intervention to secure their freedom.

Major General Rabe Abubakar served Nigeria with distinction during his military career and was widely respected for his professionalism and dedication to national service. His death has once again highlighted the growing security challenges facing the country and the urgent need for intensified efforts to protect citizens from criminal elements.

As tributes continue to pour in from military officers, public officials, and concerned Nigerians, many have called for renewed action to address the menace of kidnapping and banditry.
