The Independent National Electoral Commission confirms final candidates list ahead of the June 20 bye-elections, approving former minister Labaran Maku and other contenders after screening process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the June 20 bye-elections scheduled to hold across selected constituencies in the country.

According to the Commission, the publication follows the conclusion of the nomination, screening, and verification process for all political parties participating in the elections.

INEC confirmed that only candidates who met the requirements stipulated in the Electoral Act and the Commission’s guidelines were cleared to contest in the upcoming bye-elections.

Among the cleared candidates is former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, alongside other aspirants from different political parties who have been approved to participate in the elections.

The Commission explained that the final list represents all candidates whose nominations were properly submitted by their respective political parties within the stipulated timeframe and who successfully passed all verification stages.

With the release of the list, political parties and candidates are expected to intensify campaigns ahead of the June 20 polls, as stipulated in the electoral timetable.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, urging political actors to adhere strictly to electoral guidelines and ensure peaceful participation throughout the process.

The bye-elections are expected to fill vacant seats in legislative positions across affected constituencies, with stakeholders anticipating competitive races among major political parties.
