Former Zamfara Senator Says North-West Insecurity and Party Discontent Drove His Defection Ahead of 2027 Politics
Former Senator Kabir Garba Marafa has officially dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing worsening insecurity in the North-West and dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as key reasons for his decision.
According to reports, Marafa made the announcement after formally joining the NDC in Abuja, where he was received by party leaders. He explained that his move followed wide consultations and a review of Nigeria’s current political and security situation.
He said the persistent insecurity across Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West, alongside what he described as the APC’s failure to deliver on governance expectations, influenced his decision to switch political platforms.
Marafa added that his new political direction was aimed at aligning with a platform he believes can better address the challenges facing Nigerians, especially in terms of security and effective leadership.
Party leaders of the NDC welcomed his defection, describing it as a boost to the party’s structure and national outlook ahead of future elections.
The development adds another layer to the ongoing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly involving key figures from the North-West.
